WHAT IS A COMMUNITY SCHOOL?
A community school is not just a school building or program. A community school is a mindset and vision that guides teachers, principals, parents and partners in creating a school environment that brings out the best in every student. A community school is a hub of activity, where one point-person, the Community School Coordinator, connects the community to resources, events and programs that all make for a safer, healthier, and more stable learning environment!
IN THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR, WE SERVED 6,377 STUDENTS AT OUR COMMUNITY SCHOOLS, CONNECTING THEM TO:

-
Family Engagement Events
-
Basic Needs Essentials
-
Medical and Dental Care
-
After-School and Summer Learning Programs
-
Academic Enrichment
-
Behavioral Health Services
-
Attendance Programs
-
And more!
Our Community School Coordinators make sure supports are in place to address each school unique challenges, such as chronic absenteeism or low reading proficiency.

With the support of a committed leadership team, often including principals, parents, and partners, they cultivate relationships, find resources, and create innovative programs
and events that connect kids and families to what they need.
"My job as a community school coordinator at Lincoln Elementary is to assess the needs of our school community and partner with local organizations to provide high-priority resources to our families...

At Lincoln, community school staff, administration, teachers, and all other building personnel work collaboratively to “inspire lifelong learners and leaders, one person at a time.” This mission works hand-in-hand with that of CISLV, creating a safe and supportive environment for all."

-Gena Holmes, Community School Coordinator
