Communities In Schools Awarded 21st Century Grant For BASD After-School Programming

Communities In Schools of Eastern Pennsylvania (CISEasternPA) has been awarded just over $430,000 to execute the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Cohort 11 grant. The funds will support after-school programming in the Bethlehem Area School District. CISEasternPA was one of 22 community-based organizations across Pennsylvania to receive support.

The 21st CCLC grant provides opportunities for students in high-poverty, low

-performing schools who are struggling with academic achievement. The grant will help establish and expand community learning centers that provide academic enrichment, youth development, and literacy programs. The goal is to assist students to meet state and local standards.

“We are looking forward to providing meaningful and impactful enrichment in a safe after-school environment,'' explained CISEasternPA President and CEO, Tim Mulligan. “This important student resource made available to Bethlehem Area School District is a benefit to the entire Lehigh Valley.”

“The 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant program helps provide students with a broad range of services and resources that will help them to achieve more throughout their schooling,” said Acting Secretary of Education, Eric Hagarty. “Without this grant, students could miss out on some of the important opportunities and services that help them reach for success during their academic careers.”
